Article Analysis
Fish Cheeks
In this article Amy Tan recounts the events of a Christmas dinner with her family and their guests, the minister's family, one of which she had a crush on. during that dinner, both of the her cultures clashed as her family did what was normal to them, but quite strange in American customs. It seems that when her family eats dinner, they are heeding to all the strangest customs of their ancestry. This article expresses that it is fine to be like everybody else, but it is far more enjoyable being yourself.
Superman and Me
This article is falsely named "Superman and Me", given that the article is more about an Indian boy of above average intelligence who overcame his status. This carries a great deal of significance to the author and is expressed multiple times through the phrase "I was trying to save my life," Alexie used the art of reading, and eventually writing, to get though tough times in the non-Indian world and believes that other people can use reading to overcome obstacles in their life. This idea is expressed at the very end when he says "I am trying to save our lives."
The article that I am choosing to write my essay about is "Superman and Me" by Sherman Alexie. I am choosing this one because I believe that it says much about the segregation and hardships of minority life.

Favorite Place
Walking up the large concrete walkway, with the silver and glass roof reflecting the sunlight thrown at it, like a beacon against the treeline. The glass doors are quite heavy and inside is a semicircular desk that takes up the center of the entrance hallway. Uniformed Corpsmen on either side of the desk stare directly ahead as you pass. you enter a large cylindrical room with famous quotes of Corpsman inscribed in large bronze letters on the upper section of wall, all around, directly before the beacon. To the right is the gift shop to buy all your paraphernalia that is oh so unimportant. To the left is where you can begin your journey through a designated path to take you to all the wonderful exhibits, in order. Filling the space in the main area is two life sized replicas of vehicles. One is a tank, and the other is a helicopter. Overhead, are several airplanes that are held up with cable. The path takes you through the beginning of when they first arrive at boot camp, to when they graduate as Marines. This place is so full of history and life that hours could be spent simply meandering around and looking at the exhibits.

Why We Lie
1.This article is explaining that the rate at which people lie for their own gain is affected by several different variables. people will lie more often if not reminded of laws or morals as well as if given the opportunity with no repercussions. The participants in multitudes of experiments confirmed that people cheat more often when they see other people cheat and also when they distanced the idea of monetary gain from the cheating.
2.The quote in paragraph ten is saying that if most people cheat a little bit then something useful to know would be what makes people cheat more often.
3.My favorite quote from this article was "Sadly, it is the kind of small scale mass cheating. not the high profile cases, that is most corrosive to society". This quote is my favorite because it is saying that even though people want to believe that they are morally straight, they are still contributing to the mindset that cheating is OK.
